February 8th, 2018

Hello Families- Please see the following information on our new residency-in-art program at CA.  We feel very fortunate to be able to give our 5th graders this experience.  This is a highly structured social and emotional learning (SEL) program, an in-school residency coordinated with classroom teachers (Friedrich, Klehr, Letson, & Ries) to connect dance to subjects in the school curriculum (ELA, Social Studies, Art, Math, and Phy Ed).  Like CA, Heart of Dance is ground in their values: Respect, Elegance, and Teamwork.

Last Monday, the entire teaching staff was trained in this program.  Ask any teacher- they will all comment how fortunate the students are to be involved in this.  Our staff's mindset about their perceived feeling prior to the start of class and their elation afterward was astounding.  You too will be amazed at your child's growth and attitude change-for-the-positive regarding this program.  Guaranteed.

Regards,

Mrs Peterson

Heart of Dance curriculum starts on Tuesday February 13th!

5th Grade Valentine Party will take place  in the classrooms during the afternoon on February 14th

End of the trimester is Friday  February 16th

Dear Fifth Grade Families,

As you enjoy your final carefree days of summer, and begin preparing for your fifth grade year, I’m sure you will have a lot of questions, and even some concerns. I hope that this letter will provide you with some basic information until we have a chance to meet, and officially begin our year together.

I have been part of the Cologne Academy family for 8 years.  My teaching experience includes 2 years at an Elementary School in Chaska MN, where I taught Title I. I was also a long term substitute teacher in both 3rd and 4th grades. I have been a Special Education Teacher at Cologne Academy for 5 years. My current license areas are: Pre-Primary birth to 3, K-6 Elementary Education and Special Education K-12.  I am extremely excited to begin my third year as a 5th grade teacher at Cologne Academy and look forward to an amazing 2017-2018 school year.

I am the proud mom of 2 daughters, Madeline just graduated from Winona State University, working in children’s mental health. Elizabeth is attending St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul, pursuing a fashion career. I also have 3 cats, Mable, Florence and Betsy. In my spare time, I love to tutor students, read, drink coffee from Mocha Monkey, crochet and work in my hosta gardens. I love the color pink!

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns while preparing for your child’s fifth grade year.  On 8/22/17, I will be meeting with each of you for pre-conferences.  This is a time for you and your child to see the classroom, drop off supplies, ask questions, and learn more about the fifth grade academic year.  I am excited to meet with you, and look forward to learning more about your child’s academic and social goals.  Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Camp Voyageur: Chaperones Needed

The dates for camp are Oct. 11- Oct.13. This is a 3 day, 2 night commitment .

Cologne Academy requires all chaperones to have a background check on file in the office. A form will be given to you at conferences. Please return this form to the office along with your payment with a check made out to MN BCA. Background checks can take 4-6 weeks, so please submit as soon as possible.

If you have a background check already on file in the office, you are good to go!  We understand this is a huge commitment and greatly appreciate all volunteers.

We will give you more information on camp and fundraising opportunities when we meet at pre-conferences.  We will also have a parent meeting at school in October (date is TBD) to answer any additional questions.

If you would like to preview Camp Voyageur before we meet, please visit their website at: www.campvec.org

Thank you,

Lisa Klehr
