Weeks of May 7 and 14

With only three weeks left until summer students have been working hard to complete everything. This week was spent reviewing topics from the entire year for the final interim. Students have been working very hard in class to avoid having homework on these beautiful spring days.

Next week we will be taking our final interim. Students will take their math interim on Monday May 14 and Tuesday May 15. For the last interim we will be taking the test in our normal classes and will not have a special interim schedule. Please help your child to come prepared for their final interim next week. They have learned an abundance of new information this year and I want them to be able to show me everything that they have learned!

***All late work will be due Monday May 21st no late assignments will be accepted after this date.

I will be available for homework helpers one last time next Thursday May 17th.

Please contact me at spepin@cologneacademy.org with any questions or concerns.

Week of April 30

Spring is finally here! The countdown to summer has officially begun!

Students have completed their math and reading MCA's over the past two weeks and they did a fabulous job of doing their best and working hard throughout!

Now that MCA's are completed we will be working towards our final interim with a few final new topics. The last few weeks we have been working with probability, and last week started with congruence, transformations, and symmetry. Both classes will be finishing up new material this week and be taking a test on Thursday May 3rd. This test will cover all of the probability topics we covered, as well as congruence, transformations, and symmetry.

After the completion of this test students will begin reviewing and preparing for their final interim. The final math interim will be on May 14-15 and will be taken in MUM class.

I will be available Thursday May 3rd for homework helpers after school. Please contact me if you would like your child to attend.

Please contact me at spepin@cologneacademy.org with any questions or concerns.

Weeks of April 4 and April 9

What a crazy start back from break! Who would've thought we would come back with a 3 day week? Mother nature just doesn't want to quit winter!

Although this week is short the students are still getting a lot done in their math class. Yesterday both classes started the probability unit. We covered an introduction to probability and experimental probability. Due to the 6th grade field trip only the 10:04 class had math today. They learned about sample spaces and theoretical probability. The 12:00 class will cover those topics tomorrow, and the 10:04 class will be working on a probability experiment.

Next week we will continue with probability. Monday will cover making predictions from given information, and Tuesday we will discuss independent and dependent events. Wednesday we will move into some data representation with bar graphs and histograms, and finish the unit with mean, median, and mode on Thursday. Friday and the following Monday will be spent preparing for the Mathematics MCA's.

The Mathematics MCA's will take place on April 17th and 18th with the 19th being a makeup day. Please be sure that your child comes to school well rested with a good breakfast.

I will be available tonight (April 5) and next Thursday April 12th for homework helpers after school. Please contact me if you would like your child to attend.

Please contact me at spepin@cologneacademy.org with any questions or concerns.

Happy Spring! 😉

Week of March 19

This week is already halfway done but we have accomplished so much so far! Monday and Tuesday of this week were spent taking our 3rd math interim. The remainder of the week will be spent reflecting on our interim's and practicing some of the topics that were a challenge on our interim test. Students should not expect to have any homework this week!

Next week is Spring Break, but following break we will begin our unit on probability. The first two weeks of April will be spent on this topic leading up to the math MCA's. The math MCA's will take place during class on April 17th-19th.

There will be no homework helpers this week but we will resume them on April 5th.

Please contact me at spepin@cologneacademy.org with any questions or concerns.

Weeks of March 5 and March 12

Evidently mother nature decided that this week we needed a mid winter "Snow Break"! Because of this our MUM 6 math schedule has changed a bit.

The next two weeks will be very busy! This week the 10:04 class will finish up the unit with surface area of prisms and volume of prisms and cylinders. Next week, Monday will be review, and Tuesday will be the unit test. Wednesday-Friday will be interim review with the Interim happening on March 19th-20th.

The 12:00 class will follow the same topics as the 10:04 class, but will complete everything a day later. Their unit test will be on Wednesday the 14th.

Homework helpers is still offered every Thursday from 3:30-4:30 and I would be happy to see any students there who need some extra time!

Please contact me at spepin@cologneacademy.org if you have any questions.

Week of February 26

This week 6th grade math will continue working with geometry concepts.

The 10:04 class will cover Irregular Figures on Monday, Quiz on Tuesday with an introduction to 3D figures, Surface Area of Rectangular Prisms on Wednesday, Surface Area of Triangular Prisms on Thursday, and Volume of Rectangular Prisms on Friday.

The 12:00  class will be covering Area of Circles Monday, Irregular Figures on Tuesday, Quiz on Wednesday with an introduction to 3D figures, Surface Area of Rectangular Prisms on Thursday, and Surface Area of Triangular Prisms on Friday.

As always I will be offering math homework helpers on Thursday after school from 3:30-4:30. All students are welcome!

Also, with the Read A Thon on Friday students will be expected to bring a book to all of their classes as we will be reading intermittently throughout the day.

Please contact me at spepin@cologneacademy.org if you have any questions.

Happy Fall Ya'll!

We have been so busy in 6th grade math over the last few weeks! We have been working diligently with decimals and fractions. Students have learned how to complete operations with both fractions and decimals, how to convert between fractions, decimals, and percents, and also been working to remember to always simplify our fractional answers!

MUM 6 took their 2nd test of the year yesterday (Tuesday), and the ones that have been corrected so far are looking pretty good!

Next week students will begin their 1st interim's. On Thursday the 26th and Friday the 27th they will be working on their first reading interim. Then, on Monday, October 30th and Tuesday the 31st they will be completing their math interim. Because of this, we will spend the next week of class on reviewing the topics that we have learned so far. You should not expect too much homework to be coming home until the interim's are completed.

It was so wonderful to meet most of you at conferences this week! I hope that this is the beginning of a great working relationship that will ultimately help all students to succeed.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns and I will do whatever I can to help!

Have a fabulous long weekend!

Hello parents!

We are off to a great start in MUM 6 this year! We are about 4 weeks in and have already covered so much information!

As most of you know the 1st week was spent taking the Interim pretest. For the majority of the week not spent doing that the student participated in some "Get To Know You" activities as well as some math review from 5th grade topics.

It's hard to believe that we are already done with our first unit and the MUM 6 classes are taking their first test today! Some topics that have been covered include: rational numbers, integer operations, the coordinate plane, greatest common factor, least common multiple, prime factorization, and squares, square roots, cubes, and cubed roots. I would say that's a lot to cover in 4 weeks, but these students have done a great job!

Starting next week we will begin Unit 2 which will focus mostly on fractions, decimals, and percents. I look forward to learning more with these students and seeing where the year will take them!

Please let me know if there are every any questions or concerns. The best way to contact me in through e-mail at spepin@cologneacademy.org .

Have a fabulous weekend!
Miss Pepin

Dear 6th grade students and parents,

Welcome back for another school year! I am so excited to be joining you on your math journey this year! My name is Miss Pepin and this will be my first year at Cologne Academy. I will have two sections of 6th grade MUM, as well as be doing some interventions for the elementary grades.
*Since I am teaching all over the place my classes will all be in different classrooms, however you will find my desk and me when I'm not teaching in Mr. Wang's room.*
Although this is my first year at Cologne Academy, this will be my 6th year teaching middle school math! I have a passion for teaching math, and my greatest goal is pass that passion on to as many students as possible.

A little bit about me.....

I was raised in Rockford, MN, I attended the College of Saint Benedict for my undergraduate education, and have lived in Chaska for the past 3 years.

Outside of school, I love spending time with my dog Remi. I love to take her to the dog park, or swimming at the lake in the summer. I also love spending time up north at my family cabin, especially with my nephews and new niece! I really enjoy sports. Volleyball is my favorite sport to play, and I am on several teams throughout the year. Along with playing sports, I am a huge sports fan! My family has had Twins season tickets since 2003, and it is one of my favorite things to do in the summer! I am also a huge Vikings and Wild fan!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at any time!
I look forward to a successful school year, and cannot wait to meet everyone!

Miss Pepin
