I wanted to let you know that xx recently took a Spanish placement exam at Chaska High School. Cologne Academy now uses the same curriculum as Chaska (Realidades), and the teacher explained that her first and second year students use the level 1 series. Xx was right at the level of her first year students, so s/he will be put in Spanish 2 next year. The teacher was encouraged that future students from Cologne Academy, who will have even more years using the curriculum, will be able to test out of at least the first year of Spanish and possibly even additional years.

Thank you for investing in the students! We are grateful for the experience of being at Cologne Academy.

"I am so thankful that I am one of the families that started attending  Cologne Academy in it's first year of existence. I have a huge sense of pride to watch it grow to four times the original size.  The honor and pride I beam with is a direct reflection of the partnership the school presents to it's families.  I actually feel like I am responsible for some of the success of our school community.  As a parent and volunteer I have been presented with extraordinary opportunities being part of our school."

"I have had 4 children at Cologne Academy and all of them have developed into leaders in some way.  I attribute this to the time devoted to character development.  There is so much required curriculum by the State that it is truly a school of excellence that carves out the time to teach values.  If I had to name the most extraordinary quality of Cologne Academy it is the team effort to educate a child.  The staff is so personable, they are committed to creating a year of growth for each student.  Some students need more help, others need more academic rigor.  Whatever the needs are of the students, the parents and staff come together to make an individual learning plan."

"This month we have been talking about love and what it looks like when we treat each other and I just wanted to tell you that we as a family are thankful  for you.  The children at CA are getting the best education and character development that they can because you all  take the time of your days in and out of  school to be ready to teach(and work). I just wanted to let you all know that my family appreciates you and would like to remind you that not only are our children important so are you."

I don’t recall how we got on the subject, but we were discussing the importance of certain topics of education and their relative importance now (reading vs history vs math, etc.) and their corresponding impact if/when * were to go to college (and how those same topics might be important to the various careers she has mentioned wanting to pursue).

Knowing that * has occasionally struggled with math, my comment when on subjects like this was, as always, something along the lines of: “It is wonderful that you are a great reader, but there are a lot of people who know how to read.  If you really want to go be an engineer or a doctor or any of other things you have said you want to be, then it is really important that you not only understand math but that you really, really ‘get it’ and can use it.”  Her response was the following:

“I don’t really like math but ever since Mrs. Rohman started, some days I actually look forward to math class.”

I realize her comment was not exactly a resounding endorsement of math, but it is a start!

Just wanted to say “thanks” Mrs. Rohman.

My son started at CA for kindergarten and we loved it. We loved it so much in fact that we decided to switch our daughter from Chaska Middle School West to Cologne Academy.

She was struggling in some of her classes and was overwhelmed by the amount of work she was given, and lack of help from her teachers. My husband and I tried repeatedly to contact teachers via calling, meetings, and email; we had little to no response. We felt like * was starting to have low self-esteem as she was continually not doing well, yet trying. She did have a hard time turning in assignments. But as much as we tried to help her stay on top of things we felt like we were sinking.

At the end of last year we applied for CA. * was put at the top of the wait list as her brother * attends. In July we received the call she got in!!! We were so excited!! She has excelled so much even in this first trimester! Both academically and socially! Her attitude towards schools is 100% positive! From the student last year with missing assignments weekly, she has transformed into the student who got a pancake breakfast for no missing assignments or marks her first trimester!!! Her grades are fabulous and she loves all of her teachers! She has said herself, the teachers provide help when she needs it, and explain things in a manner she fully understands. She has even gone so far as to say she likes her uniformsJ

Needless to say we owe a lot to Cologne Academy, its teachers, and its staff. They have given our daughter a new outlook on education and more self-confidence. I hate to think of where we would be today if we hadn’t made the decision to switch her. Thank you so very much for your efforts!

When we walk into Cologne Academy, it is a safe and happy place. We have been so pleased with the progress all 3 of our kids have made this first year. They actually have fun at school and connect with others in a way that they didn't in their last school(s). It was definitely the right decision and we feel so much peace this school year.  Thank you to everyone!
